Dark, mysterious, edgy, unique and beautiful. Sophia Tatao is inspired by a young lady and of course her intriguing tattoos. Tattoos are a deeply unique and creative way to express oneself and more often than not have a personal meaning. Whether, to mark a significant experience or struggle, as a memorial for someone special or simply a way to decorate and adorn the body. Like works of art they can be collected and thus the body becomes an art gallery. Some tattoos are open to the public and others are hidden for private showings only!
This was quite a challenging art doll to create. I wanted to include as many of the tattoos as possible but that meant that I would have to squeeze them all in and maybe loose their impact. So I decided instead for some of the tattoos to be portrayed as 3d elements rather than on the body in their original positions. Thus, the amazing back skull tattoo is also becomes visible in the front. And the spiders, originally on her feet inspired from her own photos of spiders in her garden, are given extra attention.
Sophia Tatao stands strong and proud and encourages us not to be afraid of standing out and being different!
