Tulips Tulips Everywhere
This is Tulipa! Another specially made SO SOPHIE mixed media art doll.
“My friend loves tulips”, said the lovely lady that placed the order. So obviously I had to incorporate tulips in some way. Inspired by folk art patterns I started working on some simple designs. I decided to keep the colour of her dress light so as to highlight the images and line work. It was actually quite challenging because I don’t have a very steady hand and drawing the lines was difficult and made me nervous! And of course I added some tulips on her head! But it’s her sweet face that won me over and I love the end result.
Now, as far as the tulip is concerned, well it might not be considered as the fanciest flower in the garden, but its simple beauty has led it to be a symbol of:
♥ perfect, enduring love between partners or family members
♥ undying passionate love
♥ royalty and a regal nature
♥ forgotten or neglected love
♥ the 11th wedding anniversary
♥ abundance, prosperity, and indulgence
♥ charity and supporting the less fortunate
”A tulip doesn’t strive to impress anyone. It doesn’t struggle to be different than a rose. It doesn’t have to. It is different. And there’s room in the garden for every flower.
– Marianne Williamson
How beautiful is that quote? I love that it celebrates being different. We need to stop comparing ourselves to others and celebrate our own uniqueness. Our differences are what make us beautiful!
And, oh my goodness, I just remembered; my wedding bouquet was one of tulips!
